Do something special
Doris Puls
True story.
When a relative of my husband, Sherry, was cleaning out her parent’s home after they passed away, there was a lamp that two of the three sisters wanted desperately.
They decided to draw numbers with the number one getting first choice to keep it. Well, Sherry drew the number one but the other sister thought they should draw over. It didn’t happen and Sherry took the lamp home.
Now, fast forward 15 years and Sherry still had the lamp that her sister still envied. Several months ago this sister turned 70 years old and Sherry surprised her by giving her the lamp they both loved so much. Sherry said she was never given a bigger hug and she kept hugging her, so Sherry knew this lamp still meant very much to her.
Then she asked her other sister if there was anything that was special to her that Sherry had. She shared that she loved a beautiful beadwork picture made by a relative. Sherry then gifted it to her.
Why did Sherry decide to make these gifts to her sisters? She knew people and relationships are so much more important than things. She would rather have a special bond with her sisters than have these things in her home if that kept her from having these special relationships.
What is the lesson for us? Is there something special you know someone would like that you don’t need in your life? Maybe now would be the perfect time to surprise them with it. Don’t wait another day.
