Caregiving is love and you don’t have to do it alone

ALPENA — Caregiving is one of the most meaningful expressions of love. Whether you are caring for aging parents while raising children, a spouse supporting a partner, or a kinship caregiver, a relative raising a relative’s children, caregiving often means showing up every day in ways both big and small.

This Valentine’s Day, we want caregivers in our community to know that love should not mean doing it alone. No matter where you are on your caregiving journey, questions and challenges are normal, and support is available. The Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, is here to help.

It connects caregivers with trusted resources, practical services, and emotional support to make caregiving more manageable and sustainable.

From caregiver training and support groups, to help with managing medications and finding local services, the agency is your local source for answers on all things caregiving.

Program Manager, BJ Sanders at the Alpena Senior Citizen said caregiving builds bonds and promotes positive outcomes for the caregivers and those they help.

“Caregiving is about connection, not correction. Caregiver programs help families focus on strengths, preserve dignity, and build meaningful moments together, she said.
