Alcona County Library events for March

ALCONA COUNTY — The Alcona County Library released its schedule of events for March and it is packed with events for people of all interests and ages.
Every Monday next month at 10:30 am there will be Music and Movement. The new weekly program for kids ages zero to 5-years old.
Every Tuesday at 10 am there will be a Ukulele Jam. People can learn to strum crowd-pleasing songs both old and new with our welcoming collective of musicians.
On the first and third Tuesdays at 1:15 pm the Knitting Klub and Crochet will meet for all practitioners of the fiber arts. This event is geared toward everyone from beginners to those who are advanced in the craft.
On March 3 at 5 p.m., young fans of Pokemon are invited to join the library’s new Pokemon Club. The club meets regularly on the first Tuesday of the month.
On March 4 at 6 p.m. an event called Oak Wilt – Spot it, Test it, Stop it. Will be held. Let Eric Brandon, forester and sworn enemy of oak wilt, equip you with the knowledge you need to fight the spread of this forest menace.
On Wednesdays at 1 p.m., home schooled and alternatively-schooled youth are invited to partake in our weekly S.T.E.A.M. activity, intended for school-age kids who are able to read.
Every Thursday at 9 a.m., the walking club for everyone will meet in the parking lot at the main branch for an enjoyable stroll through Harrisville before the library opens.
Also on Thursdays at 10:30 a,m, Story Time and Craft will be held for young children. Our Children’s Specialist Melanie will read a story aloud, and lead a craft for young patrons and their grownups to enjoy.
On the first Friday of the month at the Harrisville branch there will be Free Popcorn Friday, where people can help themselves to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.
On Friday, there will be an International Women’s Day Seed Packet Giveaway. The library is celebrating women in our Alcona communities with a garden gift. Pick up your free bundle of seed packets at the circulation desk, while supplies last.
On March 7 at noon, there will be a Spring Fling and a change to meet the Easter Bunny, have a tasty treat and maybe win a prize at our annual Spring Fling celebration.
On March 9 at 2 p.m., Make-it Monday craft for adults will be held. March’s craft is a decorative night light. A $10 supplies fee is required; please call 989 724-6796 to RSVP.
On March 10 at 3:30 p.m. there will be Watercolor Spring Blooms. Young artist Abigail Adams will lead a class in painting bouquets of watercolor florals, for students age 8 to adult. $5 fee for supplies. Please call 724-6796 to RSVP.
On March 16 at noon people can decorate Pysanky Ukrainian eggs. People can learn more about the traditional method and take home a beautiful piece of art. This program is a seasonal favorite, so book your spot early! There is a $5 charge to cover materials. Call 724-6796 to RSVP.
On March 17 at 5 p.m. the Cookbook Club will meet to sample recipes from “The Irish Cookbook” by JP McMahon. Copies are available at the Harrisville circulation desk.
On March 23 at noon, the Alcona Book Club will hold its regular monthly meeting to discuss “Before Dorothy” by Hazel Gaynor. Copies are available at the Harrisville circulation desk.
On March 24 at 5 p.m. there will be an Artisan Cheese 101 class. Farmer and Chef Adam Beckta of Wandering Winds Farm will treat you to a tasty crash course to enhance your cheese expertise! This is a free event, but registration is required. Call 724-6796 to reserve your spot.
On March 25th at 2:00 pm: the Alcona County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Harrisville branch.
Friday, March 27 through April 2, Puzzle-palooza community jigsaw puzzle exchange at the Harrisville branch. Have you already completed a lot of the jigsaw puzzles in your home? Come and trade them for puzzles you’ve never seen before.
