ALPENA — Drama and inspiration are brought to life by Alpena Civic Theatre in The God Committee.

One heart, four patients, and only one can be chosen.

The Alpena Civic Theatre presents The God Committee, a gripping drama written by Mark St. German, directed by Mark Hunter and the assistant director is Beverly Hunter.

The story centers on seven medical professionals battling money, morality, and their own personal demons to decide who receives a life-saving transplant. A choice that stretches their

emotions. Audience members can decide for themselves if the committee makes the right decision.

The transplant committee has ninety minutes to decide. The medical professionals in a room must weigh statistics against instinct, policy against compassion. They argue. They reflect. They confront their own beliefs, their own flaws, and their own agendas.

In the end, it may not be about right or wrong–but about how human beings wrestle with responsibility and themselves in the face of difficult questions. It is reminiscent of Rudyard Kipling’s poem beginning,

“If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too; . . .”

The cast includes: Dr. Gorman played by professionally trained actor, Matt Southwell; Dr. Jack Klee by Craig Ludwiczak, who us making his return to the Civic Theatre stage after twenty years performing in Arizona.

Nurse Larkin is portrayed by Civic Theatre veteran Jackie Herbert and Bryan Ghekiere plays Irish Father / Lawyer Dunbar. Kristin Lockwood is Psychiatrist Ross and Traci St. Charles Boyle is young Dr. Banks.

The wise guy in the play, Domenick, is played by Doug Niergarth and newcomer Adam Poll plays Dr. Felker.

The crew includes lighting technicians are Zach Clements and Leif Davenport; costumes by Mary Ann Crawford. The set was built by Bill Powell, Bryan Ghekiere and Adam Poll.

Photographs for the event are by Bronwyn Woolman and special assistant Carol Rundell.

The final scene directing is handled by Matt Southwell.

Show dates at Alpena Civic Theatre are Jan. 8-11 and Jan. 15-18 and people can call 989-354-3624 to make reservations.
