ALPENA -The Salvation Army of Alpena presented their increased need to serve the community, and the funds needed for 2026, and the community heard. In a year of increased requests for services and a struggling economy, Alpena Salvation Army was concerned that with the worries of the economy for all people, that the goal may have seemed unreachable. Instead, they were able to meet their goal and provide help to many in need. That is because of partners, donors, and tireless volunteers who stepped up despite the struggles of 2025.

The goal was $190,000 and as of January 25th the funds reached $190,000. The funds are collected through red kettles, mail appeal collections, local group/church fundraisers, and mail in donations.Big help came from the Honorary Red Kettle Chairperson, Alpena Mayor Cindy Johnson. She was the spokesperson and promoter of the programs and goal of the Army.

The $190,000 goal was reached because of her assistance. These funds will help the needs of our Alpena County neighbors in 2026. The Salvation Army would not be able to serve those in need in this county without the help of its generous partners, donors, and bellringers. “I was concerned as January rolled on and we were still behind. I now know this community has a deep concern for their neighbors and friends who struggle, and they are willing to sacrifice to give where there is the most need. YOU ARE the Army” Says Major Prezza Morrison. The Christmas toy and food distribution served 240 families, with a total of 967 people. 536 children with 1,608 toys not including books, winterwear, and stocking stuffers, were provided. This does not include the monthly services continued in December.

As 2026 service begins, The Salvation Army doors continue to be open weekly from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. It assists with utility bills, food and personal care items, clothing and household voucher, disaster services, youth and adult programs, spiritual assistance and more.
