Presque Isle District Library events for January

Recipe Book Club will meet on Monday at the Presque Isle District Posen Branch Library .

There are a lot of exciting things for people to enjoy this month at the Presque Isle District Library for people of all ages and interests.

On Monday at 3 p.m. at the Posen Branch Library people can try a delicious new recipe during the Recipe Book Club at the Posen Branch Library. People are urged to visit the library prior to the event and choose a recipe from “Baking Yesteryear” to make before the club meeting. Make sure to bring in your dish and have fun tasting everyone’s Recipe Book Club choices. Plates and utensils are provided for all attendees. On Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Rogers City Library it will be Teen Doodle Tuesday, which takes place after school. Kids are encouraged to learn new doodles and pick their favorites to practice at this fun club meeting every third Tuesday of the month. Doodle Tuesday is a uniquely creative challenge for tweens and teens ages 10-18 years old, where young artists can relax and flex their drawing skills in a fun and supportive environment.

On Jan. 26 at 12:30 p.m. at the Posen Branch Library area kids can participate in Can You Beat the Clock games. During this fun Presque Isle District Library youth game night. Participants will attempt to conquer winter-themed challenges in less than sixty seconds for mini prizes. This “Minute to Win It” themed activity will have hot cocoa refreshments and is open to all area youth.

On Jan.27 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the Millersburg Branch Library People can make a mini wooden popsicle stick sled decoration. The craft event is free and all supplies are provided. The library says all ages are welcome. Also, people can bring their own project to work on, as the Craft Club is an open crafting time at the library for all types of crafts.

On Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Grand Lake Branch Library there will be a Learn the Basics of Needle Felt Art with fiber artist Kate Goodrich-Arling. Participants will use wool fibers and a special needle to create three different Valentine hearts. All materials for the event are supplied with a sign-up fee of $10. The number of participants are limited, so please contact the Grand Lake Library Branch at 989.734.2477 ext. to and save your spot.

The Rogers Theater in Rogers City is also hosting a Film Noir Series through all of January. Upcoming classic films include “Moonrise” made in 1948, showing on Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. The next film showing will be “Nightmare Alley” made in 1947, showing on Jan. 25, also at 2 p.m. Each showing includes a virtual film introduction by Eddie Muller, host of Noir Alley on Turner Classics. This series is offered to the public with a freewill donation at the door. Enjoy these upcoming classic films in the cozy indoor setting of the historic Rogers Theater.

The Rogers City Library’s January Spice Club features some spicy hot picks for this cold January weather including African Birds-Eye Chilies and Wasabi Powder! Pick up your spice kit at the Rogers City Library today and start cooking. Kits include spices, recipes, a history of each spice, and cookbook recommendations for additional recipes if this spice appeals to your taste buds.
