Saturday begins the first of many live music events at Art in the Loft as it highlights and celebrates the art of storytelling. In this new series, Storytellers Showcase, Art in the Loft will feature a variety of talented musicians and their bands as they share stories through music.
Our first band in this new series, Mercier, an Alpena band playing original folk and rock music and the band is very excited to share tales of their music, while giving attendees more insight into their creative process and the lore behind their songs.
Doors to the event open at 6 p.m., with music beginning 7 a.m. and will wrap up at 9 p.m. All are welcome and a proper ID is required for the bar.
Tickets are $15 each and are available on the Art in the Loft website.
Mercíer Bio:
Mercíer is an alternative band with rock, blues, and folk influences such as The Black Keys, Tom Waits, and Tom Misch. The lyrics cover topics ranging from the inability to be the most honest version of yourself, to the chronophagous and decaying affects of addiction, and religious extremism using scripture to fulfill personal vendettas; there is a raw, unfiltered story within every song.
The five members, Benjamin Loewe (Vocals, Guitar), Andrew Vanvlerah (Guitar), Thomas Jore (Keyboard), Angelina Burcar (Bass), and Oliver Van Assche (Drums) have been playing together for \three years, with the more seasoned members playing live music for over a decade.
There’s a je ne sais quoi quality to Mercíer, the whimsical realism Loewe encapsulates within the lyrics meld with each intricate instrumental. Their sound is hazy and lavish. They have created something new, trenchant, and meaningful. Mercíer is a world of music that entices you to explore.
