Alpena – Reborn Rescue invites the community to a heartfelt Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1017 Walter Street in Alpena.

The event will honor beloved pets as well as those who have lost their lives to substance use disorder. Blending remembrance, healing, and cultural connection in a powerful way.

“This celebration holds deep meaning for our family,” CEO ofReborn Rescue Shannon Vivero said. “As a family with a Hispanic heritage, it’s important to share this tradition with our community and teach what it truly represents, that death is not the end, but a continuation of love and memory.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo of a pet or loved one to place on the community ofrenda, which is a traditional altar decorated with marigolds, candles, and framed photos. Memorial keepsakes and pet remembrance items will be available for purchase, with all proceeds supporting Reborn Rescue’s recovery programs.

The event will feature local favorites including Delishables Taco Truck and Sassy Soda, along with pup cups, family activities, and raffles.

Community partners such as Freedom Recovery Center, Sunrise Treatment and Recovery, Catholic Human Services, Sober Steps Construction and Recover Your Shine Cleaning Co. will host interactive booths with games, prizes, crafts, face painting and creative displays. Fun for the whole family.

New Beginnings Veterinary Services will provide $15 microchipping for pets (pre-registration required), and attendees can enter a raffle for a $100 prize basket donated by Alpena Tractor Supply and Amber Suszek of Real Estate One. Pet photos by Heather Rae Photography and paw print keepsake crafts will be available for purchase.

Pet owners are welcome to bring their dogs, provided they are non-aggressive and current on Rabies and DHPP vaccinations. Proof of vaccination is required at check-in, with exceptions for dogs adopted through, fostered by, or enrolled in Reborn Rescue’s Doggie Daycare program.

All proceeds from the event benefit Reborn Rescue’s mission to unite animal rescue with human recovery. Through The Healing Paws Project programs the organization helps individuals in recovery rediscover purpose, compassion, and community through their bond with rescue dogs.

For more information visit Reborn Rescue on Facebook or call 989-250-0100 to register for microchipping.
