ACC Foundation’s annual golf scramble raises over $27,000 for scholarships

ALPENA — On July 16, a record-breaking 124 golfers teed off at River’s Edge Golf Club for the Robert M. Granum Memorial Scramble for Scholarships.
The Alpena Community College Foundation hosted this annual event, which netted more than $27,000 to be distributed in the form of scholarships for ACC’s students.
Besser Company once again served as the tournament’s corporate sponsor and golfers enjoyed a lunch sponsored by Alpena Power Company and The Wartosky Group.
While there were no hole-in-one shots that day, Alpena Buick-GMC sponsored a hole-in-one competition which offered $30,000 toward the purchase of a new car, and Alpena Agency Inc. sponsored a $10,000 cash hole-in-one prize.
Top O’ Michigan Insurance once again sponsored a putting contest giving golfers a chance to win $1,000.

Second place honors went to the team of Kyle Clearwood, Jim Bennett, Nick Stephan, and Caleb Montroy with a score of 56.
Closest to the pin in the putting contest was Matt Bunting which earned him 18 holes of golf for 4 at River’s Edge Golf Club.
Beverage sponsors included Alpena Beverage Company, Huron Distributors, Pepsi and Great Lakes Coca-Cola.
The top three placing teams had their choice of golf packages from Treetops Resort, Lakewood Shores, and Black Lake Golf Club.
With a score of 50, the winning team was comprised of Phil Straley, Bill Peterson, Erik Peterson and Todd Skiba.

Trevor Denstaedt, Cam Cosbitt, Tommy Hein, and Griffin Saddler received third place honors with a score of 58.

Prizes were also awarded to the first and second place mixed teams, where they had their choice of golf packages from Lost Lake Woods Club and White Pine National Golf Resort.
Taking first place was Ryan Wirgau, Bob Isley, Jim Malaski and Sandy Malaski. Second place was John Richey, Jim Richey, Mary Jo Peterson, and Dean Peterson.
Since its inception in 1996, the tournament has generated more than $472,000 and provided hundreds of students with much-needed scholarship support.
