Putting a fun spin on it

The Thunder Bay Spinners and Weavers Guild (TBSWG) participated in the 2019 Family Fun Day sponsored by the Alpena Optimist Club, on March 26 at Alpena High School. Guild members said Alpena Optimist Club did a remarkable job organizing this event with a wide range of arts, crafts, games, food, and more for children and their families.

Children of all ages stopped by to learn about fiber arts. They could use a drum carder to make rolags and spin them into yarn, weave on a rigid heddle loom and “make and take” cardboard looms, and make Japanese Dragon Boat Boxes. Not only did a large group of children experience hands-on crafting, they did an outstanding job. As a group, the children wove a table runner that day.

The Thunder Bay Spinners and Weavers are proud of the accomplishments of all the participants and they look forward to next year’s event.
