ALPENA -- The Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary (TBNMS) have events planned for TBNMS through November.
The Haunted Museum at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center
While trick-or-treating in downtown Alpena, TBNMS encourages community members to visit the Haunted Museum inside the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center on Friday, Oct. 23 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to a TBNMS press release. This is an all ages, free event.
There will be trick-or-treating, games, arts and crafts by the Boys & Girls Club, and a haunted museum to explore.
This event is possible thanks to support from the Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, candy donations, and numerous volunteers.
If you are able to donate candy leading up to this event, please contact Erin Pilarski at Friends@ThunderBayFriends.org.
Great Lakes Now Weekend
On Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1, you can catch "Diving in Ice and Smashing Bugs," a recent episode of Great Lakes Now from Detroit PBS, at TBNMS, according to the release.
This month's episode features a team of divers and scientists working to uncover what happens beneath the ice, investigating how changing winters are affecting our lakes, the release stated. Then, travel to upstate New York, where specially treated trees could help slow the spread of invasive spotted lanternflies.
The last weekend of every month is a "Great Lakes Now weekend" where TBNMS shows the latest episode from Great Lakes Now, a product of Detroit PBS.
This is a free event open to all. The episode will play in the theater all weekend while the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center is open. The center is always free of admission and offers 10,000 square feet of exhibit space to explore.
