ALPENA - This is the fourth year of The Salvation Army Undergarment Drive for students returning to school, according to a The Salvation Army press release on Friday.
The release stated that the undergarment distribution will make it easier for families to choose shelter, food, utility, and other necessities as the school year begins.
According to The Salvation Army, high costs are also hurting donations. Requests have increased and needs have increased. The organization has not collected what needs for distribution day on Aug. 25. Socks, t-shirts, underwear, and bras for all ages and sizes are still needed.
The organization is requesting for individuals and businesses to consider dropping off donations Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the office in Alpena. There is a contactless drop off box outside the office door for after hours or donors can call for drop off. The organization will collect through Monday, Aug. 23 for use on distribution day.
Last year, The Salvation Army served over 698 youth and distributed 839 items. Distribution day will be at the Boy's and Girl's Club Back to School Give Away event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Monetary donations are accepted via mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center in Alpena, online at salmich.org/alpena, or via telephone at (989) 358-2769 ext. 6515 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
