ALPENA -- Thirty-two classmates, plus guests, recently gathered at Maplewood Tavern to celebrate Alpena High School's class of 1963 reunion.
"We're the best as you can see! We're the Class of '63," was the motto for the day.
Brian Mitchell's drive from Ohio garnered him the longest distance prize. Ed Neumann arrived at the venue first and Mary Lou Chroninger Dell was the most "bionic" classmate with six replaced parts. Ron and Earlene Chrzan and Gary and Barb Gervers took honors for longest married; Neil Belmore for most grand- and great-grandchildren (over 30). John Poch was the only classmate to be sporting AHS clothing or jewelry - a Wildcat shirt. Paula Spragg Christensen and Bob Lee took the honors for looking most like they did in 1963. This reunion was Rose Mae Cadarette Auer's first reunion but she says she will be there for the group's 65th in 2028.
Classmates who have passed since the last gathering in 2023 were recognized. The group voted to provide a donation to AHS for the Wildcat logo restoration project.
"And a good time was had by all!" Judy MacArthur Nichols, AHS alumna, said.
