The 21st biannual Kauer family reunion was held on Saturday at the Hubbard Lake Lions Club Park.
The 63 descendents of Moritz and Anna Kauer came from all over Michigan. The group gathered at noon and shared a pot luck dinner at 1 p.m. after a prayer was offered by Mark Schultz. A balloon ceremony was held for 9 family members who passed since the last reunion: Mark Ritthaler, Leslee Swafford, Crystal Kauer, William Schultz, Art Kleve, Bertha Gerke, Karen Swafford, Randy Thiem, and Norman Ritthaler.
A silent auction of donated items was held to raise funds for the next reunion. A notable item was a case of wine made by the late Donna Hanson, donated by her son. It sold for $65. Prizes were given to the oldest attendee, Norm Kubbe, 88, and the youngest, Jude Kaiser, 14 months old. A prize was given for the farthest traveled from Burchville, Michigan to the Joe Swafford family. Door prizes went to Kelli Delisle and Mia Swafford.
A short meeting was held to plan the next reunion in July 2028.
