Below are classes that are planned for December at the Art in the Loft in Alpena.
Photography 101: camera basics
This photography class will take place at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10. Freelance photographers, Rick Houchin and Steve Jakubcin, will help “enhance your artistic direction and knowledge,” according to Art in the Loft. During this 90-minute, beginner class, Houchin and Jakubcin will guide participants through camera topics such as exposure, aperture, shutter speed, photography composure, and more.
This class costs $40 per participant.
Macrame workshop: holiday ornaments with Lasso The Moon Macrame
Artist and owner of Lasso The Moon Macrame, Lynsie Dietz, will host a workshop at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12. Participants will get to create “fun and earthy holiday ornaments that also make great handmade gift ideas,” according to the Art in the Loft.
All materials are included with step-by step instruction for two different style ornaments. Complimentary coffee, as well as a cash bar, will also be available for those who are interested.
This class costs $40 per participant.
Corkscrew & Canvas with Lovely Little Lettering Co.
Owner of Lovely Little Lettering Co., Mariah Brancheau, will host a painting class at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12. During this class, participants can create their own “painted masterpiece” while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea, a glass of wine, a microbrew, or non-alcoholic beverage, according to the Art in the Loft. All skill levels are welcome and supplies are included.
This class costs $40 per participant.
Watercolor Christmas cards and cookie workshop for children with Lovely Little Lettering Co.
At 10 a.m. on Dec. 13, Brancheau will host a card making and cookie decorating class for children 6 years old and older, according to the Art in the Loft. Participants will create three cards and decorate three cookies that can be given as gifts this holiday season.
This class costs $45 per participant.
Kids in the Kitchen: Chopped with Fresh Focus
Jess Krawczak, owner of Fresh Focus, will host a Kids in the Kitchen “Chopped” event at 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 13. Students will participate in hands-on culinary experiences while learning skills they can share with their family and friends, according to Art in the Loft.
Inspired by the Food Network show, and under the guidance and help of Krawczak, student guests will start class off with a build-your-own-style lunch before jumping into the challenge.
Students will team up and collaborate on dishes, which they will make from mystery-basket ingredients. After students have completed their dishes, judges will sample, ask questions, and present awards.
This class costs $30 per participant.
Watercolor Christmas cards and cookie workshop for teens and adults with Lovely Little Lettering Co.
At 2 p.m. on Dec. 13, Brancheau will host a Christmas card and cookie decorating class, according to Art in the Loft. Brancheau will guide participants through the art of modern calligraphy. Students will learn the basics of hand lettering and painting techniques as well as watercolor cookie decorating techniques. Participants will create three cards and decorate three cookies.
This class costs $45 per participant.
