Alpena library providing family caregiver resources

The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is partnering with the Region 9 Area Agency on Aging to provide family caregivers with resources, tools, and information. Family caregivers can visit the library to use or check out the items listed below for free. Region 9 AAA will also offer the staff at the library trainings on basics of dementia, and local resources and information. Twenty-nine libraries in Northeast Michigan are part of the Caregiver Corner initiative.

Items purchased for the library Caregiver Corners include: Dementia Toolkits (Busy Board, Aqua Paintings, Lacing Cards, Tactile items, Reminiscing items, and more); Books (Dementia, Grief and Loss, Parkinson’s Disease, Kinship, Self-Care, Caring for Parents, and more); Teepa Snow (Dementia) DVDs; iPad: Allowing caregivers to access online events such as webinars, support groups, Trualta, and Region 9 AAA’s website; Brochure Stands, and Corkboard: To highlight and showcase upcoming caregiver events and programs.

The Caregiver Resource Center Grant is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and Region 9 Area Agency on Aging a division of Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency (NEMCSA).
