Alcona County Library hosting September programs

HARRISVILLE — Alcona County Library in Harrisville will host many September programs. Unless otherwise noted, programs will be held at the main Harrisville branch, 312 W. Main St. All programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call the library at 989-724-6796.

Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. is Ukulele Jam. Learn to strum crowd-pleasing songs both old and new with a welcoming collective of musicians.

On the first and third Tuesdays at 1:15 p.m. is Knitting Klub and Crochet for all practitioners of the fiber arts, beginner to advanced. The next date is Sept. 16.

On Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., develop your balancing skill and safeguard yourself from falls with a free Balance Class, presented by Liz McNichols of Harrisville Yoga.

On Wednesdays at 1 p.m., homeschooled and alternatively-schooled youth are invited to partake in a weekly S.T.E.A.M. activity, intended for school-age kids who are able to read.

Every Thursday at 9 a.m., Walking Club for everyone meets in the parking lot at the main branch for an enjoyable stroll through Harrisville before the library opens.

The first Friday of the month is Free Popcorn Friday. Help yourself to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.

Every Friday at 10:30 a.m. is Story Time and Craft for young children. Children’s Specialist Melanie will read a story aloud, and lead a craft for young patrons and their grownups to enjoy.

On Monday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m., adults can participate in a “Make-it Monday” craft. The September project will be a conceptual collage. Supplies are provided but feel free to bring collage material of your own. Registration is required by calling 989-724-6796 to RSVP.

On Monday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m., if you are interested in learning food preservation skills, this program is for you. Learn the water-bath canning technique to stretch your food dollars and enjoy goodies from the garden all year long. Register by calling 989-724-6796.

On Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m., Cookbook Club will meet to share recipes from “The British Cook Book” by Ben Mervis. Copies will be available at the Harrisville circulation desk.

On Monday, Sept. 22 at noon, Alcona Book Club will meet to discuss “The Awakening” by Kate Chopin. Copies are available at the Harrisville branch circulation desk.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m., the Alcona County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Hubbard Lake Community Center.

On Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m., join the Friends of Alcona County Library for free cider and donuts as the winner of the Quilt Raffle is announced. Raffle tickets available at the circulation desk.

On Monday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m., the next installment of the library’s food preservation event series is entitled “Pantry Preparedness.” Call 989-724-6796 to register your spot.
