Friends of the Library Used Book Sale next week
The Friends of the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library Used Book Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, and Friday, Aug. 15, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 16, which will be $5 per bag day. The members-only opening sale will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
More than just books, the sale includes DVDs, puzzles, games, and more, with proceeds from the sale helping the Friends support library programs and projects.

Registration open for the Alpena Suicide Prevention Walk
The sixth annual Alpena Suicide Prevention Walk will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 starting at Bay View Park in Alpena.
Registration is now open, which includes a T-shirt for the first 250 registrants, featuring a unique design created by local artist Kamara Marsh. Register by 10 a.m. on Sept. 19 for $22 per adult, and just $10 per child, ages 12 and younger. The price goes up to $25 per adult, but will still be $10 for children, after 10 a.m. on Sept. 19.
The event will include speakers, music, tables with resources from local mental health professionals and community organizations.
Sponsors are encouraged to reach out to programs@nemcpi.org or call 989-356-2880 in order to meet the deadline to get their names included on the T-shirts.

Leer Lutheran Church history and stories Sunday
History and stories from one-room schools will be just a part of a special event on Sunday at Leer Lutheran Church, 10430 S. Leer Road, Posen.
The museum will be open from noon to 5 p.m. A silent auction will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. The history and stories program will take place from 2 to 3 p.m., and a hobo dinner will start at 4:30 p.m., by donation.
The silent auction will feature a wide variety of handmade gift items. There will be visiting and question time, as well as an opportunity to donate to the Leer Heritage Foundation, who is responsible for this program and the museum.
