Great Lakes Story Walk now through Aug. 22
ALPENA — The Alpena County Library and the Friends of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary have installed a Story Walk along the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Trail for all to enjoy during the Sail Into Your Sanctuary event. Beginning at the rear exit of the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, attendees can read “The Great Lakes: Our Freshwater Treasure” by Barbara Rosenstock as they walk along the trail.
Beautifully illustrated by Jamey Christoph, this picture book tells the story of how the lakes were formed, their importance as a major source of freshwater, and how to preserve this amazing resource. Readers will follow the journey of a single drop of water as it travels through the lakes, rivers, and to the Atlantic Ocean.
Reprinted with permission from Knopf Books for Young Readers, the Story Walk can be visited now through Aug. 22. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center gift store, 500 W. Fletcher St., Alpena.
