ALPENA — Dr. Bob Currier encourages the community to come out on Saturday to support the Alpena Cancer Center over Labor Day weekend.
“I have been honored to be asked to serve as Honorary Chair for the MyMichigan Medical Center Aliferis Race,” Currier said. “As this year’s chair, I’d like to invite you, your friends, and family to join me on August 30th for this family-friendly, healthy event, kicking off your Labor Day weekend! Whether you run, walk or bike, we have an event for you. Join us for a timed 5K or untimed 1-mile run/walk. If you’re a cyclist, consider participating in either the 18.5-mile bike race or come out and enjoy our 6.5-mile bike tour. Getting out and moving is a great way to begin your holiday weekend!”
Check-in and material distribution begins at 7 a.m. and runs until the start of each event.
Here is the event lineup:
7 a.m. – Check-in and material distribution
8 a.m. – Bike race starts
8:15 a.m. – Bike tour starts
9 a.m. – One mile walk/run starts
9:30 a.m. – 5K walk/run starts
10:30 a.m. – Awards ceremony
“By participating in the Aliferis Race, you’re also supporting the Alpena Cancer Center and the Aliferis scholarship,” Currier said. “All funds raised from the race support the Cancer Center, its patients and educational scholarships. Being a part of something greater through giving strengthens our entire community. Go to www.mymichigan.org/race and sign up today to be part of something good for you and our entire community.”
Currier, of Northern Eye in Alpena, added, “I look forward to seeing you all on race day!”
