The Alpena City Band opens its summer concert season at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Alpena Bandshell at Bay View Park. The band will play every Thursday through Aug. 7, excluding the Patriotic Concert, which will be on Friday, the 4th of July. Other themed concerts will be Looking Back on June 19, Children’s Concert on July 24, and the Polka Concert on Aug. 7. Bring a lawn chair for an hour of relaxing band music. The Alpena City Band rehearses every Tuesday at ACC’s Granum Theatre. All interested musicians are welcome to attend. The band is among Alpena’s longer-established civic organizations. The second annual Swings for Seniors four-person golf outing will be held on Saturday at Alpena Golf Club. Alpena Childcare and Development Center is seeking teams to participate in the Putting for Preschoolers Golf Scramble on Saturday, June 14 at River’s Edge Golf Club, 6373 Werth Road. Gather your own team of four and enjoy a fun day of golfing for $100 per player. The fee includes cart use, 18 holes of golf, fun events along the way, and lunch at the turn. Prizes will be awarded to winners, and there will be raffle items and a 50-50 drawing. Proceeds from the event will go toward ACDC’s capital campaign. The center is fundraising for a matching grant to add preschool classrooms to accommodate 50 more students.
