ALL hosts Mexican Train Express Dominoes from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday at M. Briggs Center 143.
The Association of Lifelong Learners will hold the annual spring 15-mile bike ride from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The bike ride explores Volger Conservation area, Hoeft Park, Rogers City Marina and Forty Mile Lighthouse. The route is a paved bikeway along the Lake Huron shoreline and city streets. Stopping for lunch along the way will be part of the experience. Experienced bikers call this one of the most scenic biking routes in Northern Michigan. Helmets are required. Bill Haase will contact riders with last-minute details. Haase continues to organize ALL bike rides and serves on the ALL Executive Board.

ALL will host a writing workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, led by Mary Ann Krajnik Crawford. This writing workshop series focuses on writing, sharing, and feedback. Everyone has stories — some are told, some are written, and some, like memoirs, are written to be shared with others. Sessions will examine issues with writing, share techniques for writing and revising, and practice some editing. Participants write between sessions, share their writing at sessions, and get feedback that they can use for revising and polishing their stories. Crawford has been a personal journal writer and teacher of writing for many years. She retired from Central Michigan University as emeritus professor of English and director of the Writing Center and continues to write for the fun of it.

You and your team of up to four people can find out by joining the first ever ALL Alpena Scavenger Hunt! Starting at the Madeline Briggs Center, teams will be given a clue sheet for locations around Alpena. Test your knowledge of Alpena’s history and locations using the clues. You will need a car to travel and a phone to take pictures of the group at the site. Event coordinator Lisa Rosenbeck, recently retired Alpena High School and ACC adjunct math instructor, is enjoying retirement by traveling and attending ALL events.

The 3rd annual Alpena Flower Festival will feature a new Petal Pub Crawl starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday in downtown Alpena. The festival officially kicks off on Friday and continues through Sunday. This year’s festival will feature over 35 stunning installations made of fresh flowers sponsored by local businesses and created by four local florists. The installations will range from creative photo ops near downtown businesses to larger-than-life, interactive floral displays. This year’s show-stopping displays will be located at the Center Building, Bay View Park, the Alpena Marina, 106 Water St., Thunder Bay Arts Gallery, and the Center Alley between 2nd and 3rd Ave.
Next up in the Sanctuary Lecture Series is Marine Robotics for Mapping Sanctuary Shipwrecks at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, 500 W. Fletcher St., Alpena. This free community event will feature a presentation by Katie Skinner, an assistant professor of robotics at the University of Michigan. This lecture will blend cutting-edge technology with Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary shipwrecks. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will conclude at 7:30 p.m.

The Alpena Flower Festival officially kicks off on Friday, when installations are complete at 5 pm. The Alpena Street Performers will be performing throughout the downtown from 5 to 7 p.m. Flower trucks and artists will also be scattered around the Center Alley and 2nd Avenue with artwork, bouquets and Flower Fest swag for sale. From 7 to 11 p.m., visitors can enjoy a new Flowers After Hours event in the Center Alley, which will feature live music from Grand Rapids based duo Gemini Moon (7 to 9 p.m.) and a set from DJ Chris Chrzan (9 to 11 p.m.).
It’s Free Popcorn Friday at the Harrisville branch of Alcona County Library. Help yourself to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.

Saturday’s Alpena Flower Festival schedule features a variety of activities for all ages, including a new Flower Fest 5K Run/Walk hosted by Highpointe Rehab and Performance that will allow runners and walkers to visit the floral installations. Races begin at 9:30 a.m. at 106 River St., with registration available online via Run SignUp. Saturday’s schedule also has a variety of activities for kids, including a free gardening activity with the Alpena Garden Club in the Center Alley (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), storytime and craft at the library (11 a.m.), a free craft with Thunder Bay Arts (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and chalk art on the river near the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Throughout the day, Art in the Loft will be hosting themed workshops and local florists will be set up in the heart of the downtown with build-your-own bouquet bars (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The Thunder Bay Folk Society will be hosting its Spring Fling in the alleyway next to the Black Sheep with live music all day from noon to 10 p.m. The day finishes with live music in the Pocket Park with Chris Crown and the Get Down Band (5 to 7 p.m.), followed by the Birch Road Band in the Center Alley (7 to 9 p.m.).
The Sunrise Side Co-op Market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday, with 40 vendors represented weekly for your bakery, farm products, wellness items and high-end gift needs, at the Alpena Marina at 400 E. Chisholm St., Alpena.
Flower Fest Storytime will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Alpena County Library, 211 N. 1st Ave. Youth are invited to come to this free program for a flower-themed story, then create a flower magnet to take home.
At noon on Saturday, join the Alcona County Library in Harrisville for Botanical Illustration with Lisse Williams. Participants will learn to utilize pen and ink wash, creating illustrations that are elegant and playful, using seasonal bouquets as reference. Huron Shores Fellowship will hold a 25th anniversary celebration from 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at the church, 3558 M-32 West, Alpena. A continental breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., followed by a special celebration service at 9:30 a.m. This family-friendly celebration is free and open to the public. Alpena Flower Festival weekend wraps up with a new Sunday Funday activity from noon to 4 p.m. on the City Hall lawn at 208 N. 1st Ave. with bouquets for sale, bike decoration stations, and live music. Community members are encouraged to bring their own picnic blanket, lunch, and beverages. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes, wagons, and strollers or dress in their best floral garb for a walking and biking parade that will go around the Thunder Bay River. The parade starts at 1 p.m. from City Hall and will complete a 1.5-mile loop.
