NEMAG exhibit at Brush Creek Mill in Hillman

The Northeast Michigan Artists Guild invites the public to view their annual exhibit at Brush Creek Mill during regular business hours, noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, from May 29 through June 29.

This year’s theme is “It Figures.” Each piece displayed will be an original work of art by a current NEMAG artist in their chosen medium and may present a literal or “figurative” interpretation of that theme.

NEMAG’s mission is to promote and support art and artists through inspiration, information and education in our community. Long Lake Improvement Association meeting Wednesday

The Long Lake Improvement Association will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Parker House Restaurant, 24732 U.S.-23, Presque Isle. The public is welcome to attend.

Thunder Bay Folk Society Spring Fling June 7

The Thunder Bay Folk Society presents the 2025 Spring Fling Fundraiser from noon to 10 p.m. during Flower Fest on June 7 at the Black Sheep in downtown Alpena.

There will be open mics throughout the day, raffles, 50/50s, food, drinks, and live music including Troy Graham, Dr. West, Mercier, and The Rev. Jesse Ray.

Admission is a $5 minimum donation. The more you donate, the more chances you will have to win.

Craftmakers Cabin flea market June 7

The Craftmakers Cabin in Harrisville will host a free flea market from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 7. There is no charge to participate in this monthly event.

Bring and sell your own items and set up south of the historic log cabin at the corner of M-72 and U.S.-23 in Harrisville. A bake sale will be held in the cabin, and the Garden Club will also have spring plants for sale.

MARSP meeting June 12

The Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will hold their annual meeting at noon on Thursday, June 12 at the First United Methodist Church on Ripley Boulevard in Alpena.

A catered lunch (payable at the door) is available for $12.50, or you can bring your own lunch. Lunch reservations need to be made by June 5 to Ruth LeBarre either by calling or texting her at 989-506-8876.

Insurance benefits, pension and other issues will be discussed at the meeting. Election of officers for president and treasurer will be held.

Come enjoy a delicious meal and visit with fellow retirees.

The next MARSP meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 11.

Huron Shores Fellowship celebrating 25th anniversary

Huron Shores Fellowship will hold a 25th anniversary celebration from 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at the church, 3558 M-32 West, Alpena.

A continental breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., followed by a special celebration service at 9:30 a.m.

This family-friendly celebration is free and open to the public. There will be a bounce house and activities for children, and lunch will be served.

Poetics Lab community workshop starts June 23

The Poetics Lab is hosting its fifth annual community workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. June 23 through 27 at Art in the Loft, in-person and online, for ages 16 and older. This free generative poetry workshop will include discussion of form, function, rhyming, and all sorts of poetry-related things. Participants will even be able to get their work published.

Then, on Saturday, June 28, a special Community Reading will be held in which participants will get to share sneak peeks of the pieces they are going to publish.

The workshop is open to individuals of all skill levels and experience, and there are new things in the works so previous workshop participants are encouraged to sign up again. Individuals 16 to 17 years of age must have parental permission to participate in the workshop.
