ROGERS CITY — Get ready for an unforgettable burst of color and connection — Murals on Main returns June 9 through 15 with the vibrant theme Young at Art. Now in its second year, the festival brings renowned muralists from around the world to transform downtown Rogers City into a walkable, open-air gallery.

This year’s expanded celebration features seven new murals, including a special Community Mural where residents are invited to grab a brush and paint alongside a professional artist.

“In a small town, everything is personal — every name, every face, every street, every wall — and they all hold a strong bond of belonging to one another,” said Shweta Lahudkar Singh, owner of Pure of Heart Emporium and a 2025 mural site. “Murals give voice to those quiet belongings — to tell stories, honor roots, and inspire hope. When we support murals with matching funds, every dollar becomes a catalyst for turning individual pride into a collective masterpiece.”

Festival highlights include a kickoff party with live music, food, and fun for all ages; the Community Mural, in which everyone is welcome to help paint a mural together; a community appreciation dinner to thank the people who make this all possible; an art walk and food truck court; and Kids Day — a full day of creative fun and hands-on art activities for children.

“Murals don’t just beautify a space — they tell stories, inspire communities, and create a sense of belonging,” said Trina Derry, owner of Shear Harbor. “Matching funds are crucial because they double the impact, showing that public and private support can come together to turn shared vision into vibrant reality.”

The project’s success is made possible by local donations and a Patronicity crowdfunding campaign, with matching funds provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Public Spaces Community Places program.

“The murals from last year have already transformed downtown,” said Brittany VanderWall, local homeowner and city council member. “Supporting this campaign means continuing a powerful tradition of beautifying and celebrating Rogers City.”

Because of overwhelming support and enthusiasm, several artists from last year are returning for commissioned projects outside the festival, expanding the impact beyond the event week.

“As Mayor of Rogers City, I can’t stress enough how important these matching funds are to our vision,” said Mayor Scott McLennon. “They help us celebrate our heritage, enhance our public spaces, and inspire civic pride.”

“Murals on Main has become more than just an art event — it’s something that brings our whole community out and gets everyone involved,” added Timeen Adair, homeowner and city council member. “These matching funds give people a sense of buy-in and ownership that lasts long after the paint dries.”
