Gaining joy from the happiness of others

Senior Attitudes

Love and Peace, Peace and Love, they go together like a song. A song our hearts sing. Why is this important? We must build around our heart symbols of peace and love. Looking out a window and seeing trees beginning to bloom starts the heart to mellow. Seeing children kicking a ball causes the heart to smile. Seeing a loved one laugh expands the heart. How can we not feel joy when our loved one is happy?

I am on my way to the wedding of a beloved nephew. I am happy for them and for me having a chance to watch a new life together beginning.

I was married for 50 years and many times I was not happy, but I never wanted to not wake up in the morning next to him. I was lucky — he put up with me.

Now seeing our children and grandchildren smile makes my heart nearly explode.

I have been pulling weeds in my flower beds, and I never remember to put gloves on, so now going to this wedding I have nails (even with scrubbing) that show black dirt. I have never been a fashion maven; I usually stay in my uniform – jeans and a sweatshirt.

It’s hard to tell a weed from an early flower just like it’s hard to tell which child will achieve greatness so we must treat each of them as if they are the next Pope or Dali Lama. Teach them the beauty of the world, the trees, the flowers, all animals, and the variety of people in the world. We are all individuals and yet all the same, human beings. People capable of love and peace and of sharing it with others. The more I travel, the more I love people, almost as much as dogs.

Pet your dog today, hug your spouse, and smile at your neighbor.
