ALPENA — Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union’s scholarship program application deadline is Friday, March 21. Each year, Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union awards at least 10 $1,000 scholarships to students residing in Alpena, Alcona, Cheboygan, Emmet, Iosco, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties.

Last year, the credit union awarded 25 graduating seniors the scholarship to be used toward full-time college or another continuing education program after high school graduation.

To qualify for the scholarship, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

¯ Be a graduating senior or 13th Year/Early College Program graduate.

¯ Be a resident of Alpena, Alcona, Cheboygan, Emmet, Iosco, Montmorency, or Presque Isle counties.

¯ Enroll in a full-time college or other continuing education program after high school graduation.

¯ Applicant must become an AAACU member before a scholarship is disbursed.

The applicant must also provide the following documentation:

¯ Two personal examples of how financial literacy has impacted you in essay format. Minimum of 400 words, written in your own words. No use of Artificial Intelligence allowed.

¯ A copy of your high school transcript.

¯ Two teacher recommendations.

¯ One other outside recommendation (employer, church, etc.)

¯ Applicants must be an active user of the Zogo financial literacy app through AAACU and have completed at least 10 modules of their choice. For more information on the app visit zogo.com/aaacu.

The application must be completed in its entirety to be considered by AAACU’s Scholarship Committee.

All AAACU scholarships are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 21.
