Saturday, Feb. 15
∫ The Grand Lake Sportsmen’s Club Free Ice Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, with weigh-in from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 7 p.m. at the North End Pavilion. Prizes will be awarded for the top five pike, top five walleye, and top 15 perch. Perch drawing includes Strikemaster 24V Lite-Flite 8-inch ice auger and much more. ∫ The Dave Hillert Memorial Hubbard Lake Classic will be held on Saturday. Register at Union 76, Clem’s Bait and Tackle, Blue Water Bait Hubbard Lake, Smokey’s Restaurant in Hubbard Lake, or by emailing mhillert@hotmail.com. Registration will not be taken after 11 a.m. on the day of the tournament; you may register up until 11 a.m. that day at Anchor Market on Hubbard Lake’s east stide.If you have questions, contact T.J. ∫ The APlex presents Comedy Night featuring Matt Harper, Sean Shank, and Adam Degi. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $11 per person.
∫ The Poetics Lab, in partnership with PIF Cider, presents Lip Sync Extravaganza and Fundraiser from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at PIF Cider, 205 W. Chisholm St., Alpena. Attendees will enjoy an evening of fun and tomfoolery as they lip sync their hearts out to favorite animated mouse-themed songs. To sign up to perform a lip sync, email director@tpoeticslab.com.
∫ The Hollyhock Emporium and Revolution Dance are hosting a Dance the Night Away Adult Prom from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Revolution Dance, 211 S. State St., Harrisville. There will be music, dancing, a photobooth, gourmet hors d’oeuvres by Red Fork, and more. Tickets are $25 per person by today (Feb. 7), or $30 per person at the door, for adults 18 and older. This is a dry event. Buy tickets at the Hollyhock Emporium and Revolution Dance.
Sunday, Feb. 16
∫ The Friends of Plaza Pool will host a Euchre Tournament on Sunday at a new location, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1960 M-32, Alpena. This is a fundraiser for the Plaza Pool. Doors open at noon and play starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, and you must be at least 18 to play. Cash prizes will be awarded, with the amount to be determined by the number of participants. There will be a $1 entry for high game, food, a 50/50 drawing, and door prizes.
∫ If a problem drinker is affecting your life, Al-Anon can help. Confidential and anonymous meetings are held from 2 to 3 p.m. every Sunday at St. Raphael Church in Mikado.
Monday, Feb. 17
∫ AARP TAX-AIDE offers free tax prep to senior citizens and also to low-income persons of any age. Membership is not required. Services are provided in Alpena by appointment only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. No walk-ins. AARP TAX-AIDE Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year. ∫ Friends Together North is a cancer support group for men and women that meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday at the Presque Isle District Library in Rogers City.
∫ Friends Together’s Monday Mixer support group is hosting a Valentine’s Party at 5:30 p.m. at Friends Together. They will offer food, beverages, games and a Valentine-themed costume contest. “For the Love of Friendship” is open to anyone in the community who has been impacted by cancer and is free to attend.
