Courtesy Photo Bev Sparling, a member of Alpena’s First Presbyterian Church, has crocheted over 200 prayer shawls, a mission project she began while serving as deacon five years ago. Shawls have been presented to many members and friends of the church in recent years, as well as to patients of her daughter, who is a doctor in North Carolina.
