Anonymous donor gives $4,000 to Salvation Army
ALPENA — On Dec. 2, a generous anonymous donor dropped cash in five Salvation Army Red Kettle locations, totaling $4,000. Eight one-hundred dollar bills were folded and held with a paperclip in each of the five kettles.
“We were so excited to see these bills appear again this year,” said Major Prezza Morrison, Corps officer of The Salvation Army of Alpena County. “We were concerned whether they could continue to give in this way. We thank them for giving from their hearts to assist us in giving hope to others.”
The Salvation Army has been serving Alpena County since 1888. This year is no different, but more critical. Due to the economy and other national issues, the need for assistance continues to grow.
“Christmas is a critical time for many people, including The Salvation Army,” Morrison said. “The Red Kettle Fundraiser is our largest fundraiser of the year. We use the funds to serve the community throughout the year. Essential programs are funded by this fundraiser.”
At this point in the season, The Salvation Army has raised $103,013, which is 44% of their $185,000 goal to help “Love Beyond Christmas” local families and individuals.
This year, The Salvation Army is asking for help to reach their goal with a kettle challenge.
“We would like to have all locations and times filled with volunteers December 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” Major Prezza Morrison said. “This would give a special Christmas gift to our hired bell ringers and save the expenses so the income can be used to assist those in need.”
To volunteer to ring as a family, service organization, business or individual, you can go to registertoring.com. Choose your site, day and time or call Morrison at 989-358-2769, Ext. 6513. Volunteer to ring for two-hour, or more, time slots. The kettle stands this year include a QR code giving option for phones. Take a picture of the small sign with the QR code.
Without your help, The Salvation Army would not be able to serve the thousands they serve throughout the year and this holiday season.
Monetary donations are accepted via mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena, MI 49707. You can also give online at salmich.org/alpena or by calling Morrison at 989-358-2769, Ext. 6513.
The Salvation Army of Alpena County thanks the community for its continued support.
