ALPENA – Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union Branch Manager Karen LaFleche, along with staff members, recently presented the Alpena Community College Foundation Interim Executive Director Penny Boldrey with a donation of $1,000 in support of the John Berg Student Assistance Fund.

AAACU donated $9 to its charitable fund for each member who signed up to “go paperless” over the last year. For the next 18 days, local organizations and charities will be the beneficiaries of $18,000.

“AAACU is proud to give back and support 18 different local programs ad agencies throughout Northeast Michigan as part of our annual 18 Days of Giving Campaign,” LaFleche said. “Kicking off on Dec. 8, each day a new recipient of a $1,000 donation will be announced via our social media platforms. We have so many wonderful organizations that do so many amazing things for individuals in our communities, and the credit union is proud to support them.”

The ACC Foundation John Berg Student Assistance Fund provides one-time support to students facing financial hardships.

According to Boldrey, “Many of our students are under tremendous pressure and facing various financial hardships. Recent requests involve the need for gas money, text books, car repairs, and many other nontuition-related needs. All are barriers to a students’ academic success.”

Boldrey went on to say, “We’re so grateful to AAACU, their board and its members for the immense support they have provided to ACC and more importantly, its students.”

Since 1991, AAACU has donated a total of $54,710 to the ACC Foundation and has lent their philanthropic support to four capital campaigns, the annual Scramble for Students golf tournament, as well providing funding for scholarships and athletics.
