Art in the Park to feature more vendors, activities on Saturday
ALPENA — The third annual Art in the Park is set for Saturday at McRae Park, and this year’s event will be bigger than ever.
With over 45 vendors, there will be plenty of artwork, crafts, and quality items for visitors to browse and buy, as well as concessions, live music, raffles, and activities for the whole family. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Hope Shores Alliance, an Alpena-based domestic violence shelter and survivor support center. Hope Shores Alliance provides services in Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties.
Event organizer Jodie Bishop is excited to offer more vendors this year, and to support Hope Shores Alliance.
“This year, we’re looking at over 45 vendors,” she said. “The first year we were at 20, and then last year we had 38. So, I’m excited about that.”
She said the vendors are looking forward to the event.
“The vendors are excited,” Bishop said. “Every vendor has donated an item for the raffle.”
Vendors are coming from all over Michigan to participate in Art in the Park, Bishop said. The goods available include art in a variety of mediums, from drawings to ceramics to jewelry, and much more. There will also be baked goods available for purchase.
“We’ve got a permanent jewelry artist coming this year,” Bishop added. “She’s coming from Newaygo. I’ve got people coming from the other side of the state this year, so I’m excited. I’ve got epoxy, I’ve got knitted yarn items, I’ve got bakery goods coming, I’ve got a gentleman who’s got his items in Las Vegas. It’s called Touch of Glaz. He’s got stuff all over the country.”
She added that the raffle will be happening alongside the craft fair.
Representatives from Hope Shores Alliance have gone out into the community to garner donations from local businesses for the raffle, as well.
“Weather permitting, we’ll have a good turnout,” Bishop added. “I’m really hoping.”
