ALPENA — The Michigan Public Health Week Partnership has recognized Dan Oliver, Recovery and Addiction Services coordinator, from Thunder Bay Community Health Service, as an honorable mention for the Hometown Health Hero award.

Oliver was nominated for his work to advance access to the availability of recovery and addiction services in our northern Michigan communities.

“The availability of recovery and addiction services and education is of the utmost importance in our communities,” said Dr. Richard Bates, CEO of Thunder Bay Community Health Service. “Dan epitomizes our vision (community partner for well-being) in action. He has been a leader responding to needs and collaborating with other agencies to increase access and reduce stigma surrounding substance use disorders.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Hometown Health Hero award. This award has been presented to individuals and/or organizations that have made significant and measurable contributions to preserve and improve their community’s health. Awardees are selected solely from nominations received.
