Bridge results announced

ALPENA — Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners have been announced for this week, with Ron Young and Jan Kane topping the competition in first place. Linda Clegg and Audrey Stevens placed second, followed by Carolyn Belton and Marge French in third.

Alpena County Library hosting April programs

ALPENA — Spring has sprung at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library!

The following programs are being offered in April at the library, 211 N. 1st Ave., Alpena.

∫ Great Start Collaborative Early Connections: Weekly from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays

∫ Tinker Tuesday: Weekly from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, 4 to 5:30 p.m.

∫ Open MakerLab: Weekly on Wednesdays

∫ Tech Help: Noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

∫ Crafting with Carly: noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 11

∫ Tiny Art: 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12

∫ Family Storytime: 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturdays, April 13 and 27

∫ Pokemon Club: 5 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, April 15 and 29

∫ Animal Experience: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20

∫ Lego Club: 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 22

∫ April Flood of 1923: 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23

∫ Graphic Novel Club: 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 25

∫ Singing the Good Old Songs Again: 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27

The library’s recurring programs will continue throughout the month of April. Artists ages 6-18 are invited to create a tiny art masterpiece at 4:30 p.m. on Friday to be displayed at the library April 15 through 20.

Animal lovers of all ages are welcome to meet and learn about different animals from our community partners-4-H, Huron Humane Society, and Karma’s a Fish on April 20.

History buffs will not want to miss Jim Johnson, board member of Besser Museum, when he shares the history of the 1923 flood that caused large-scale damage throughout Northeast Michigan and especially the City of Alpena.

The library is welcoming back Gary Brandt and Jackie Davidson on Saturday, April 27 to entertain audiences with classic folk songs and stories of the “good old days.”

Garden Club gearing up for May plant sale

ALPENA — The Alpena Garden Club met on Monday, April 8. Once again, plans were made to beautify our city.

ACC Growers (volunteers from Alpena Garden Club who grow and plant flowers to beautify the campus at Alpena Community College) will have their yearly sale of tomatoes, peppers, herbs and flowers from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 and from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 25. It will be held at the ACC greenhouse area off of Woodward Avenue (across from Northern Lights Area). Alpena Garden Club will also be having a perennial plant sale at the same location, at the same time.

The Alpena Garden Club welcomes new members at any time.

Friday Night Fish Fry ongoing in Hillman

HILLMAN — The Hillman VFW Post 2356 hosts its Friday Night Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday night, with your choice of fish or shrimp, potato, coleslaw, roll, and drink. The fish fry is open to the public, and the cost is $12 for the fish dinner or $14 for the shrimp dinner.
