Alcona FFA’s 15th Annual Maple Syrup Celebration Day is Saturday

Pancakes and maple syrup are on the menu for Saturday at the Alcona FFA Chapter’s 15th Annual Maple Syrup Celebration Day.

LINCOLN — This celebration will be syrupy sweet.

Everyone is invited to the Alcona FFA Chapter’s 15th Annual Maple Syrup Celebration Day on Saturday at Alcona Community Schools.

The free family-friendly fun begins at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 2 p.m. at the school, located at 51 N. Barlow Road just south of Lincoln.

A delightful breakfast of pancakes, sausage and maple syrup will be served during the event. If you love maple syrup, you can purchase some at the celebration, as well as tour the Sugar Shack, and pet some cute animals at the small animal exhibit.

“Maple Syrup Celebration Day is a great community event,” said Connor Hubbard, agriscience teacher and FFA advisor. “The Sugar Shack is our maple syrup production facility.”

He said the day is an opportunity to celebrate what the students have accomplished and share that with the community.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase the skills the students at Alcona Community Schools have been learning through the agriscience program,” Hubbard added.

He said the students have gone out and tapped the trees for sap, collected it and brought it back to the Sugar Shack to transform it into delicious maple syrup that folks can sample at the breakfast and purchase to take home, as well.

About 80 students have been involved in the FFA program this year, he added.
