Special Needs Prom Friday

ALPENA — The APlex presents the 2024 Special Needs Prom, with the theme Hollywood Nights, on Friday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be at 6 p.m. This event is open to anyone in the community with special needs.

MCL hosts Polish dinner Saturday

ALPENA — The Marine Corps League Alpena Detachment will host a Polish dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the VFW Canteen on Connon Street in Alpena.

Dinner includes pierogies, potato, sauerkraut and sausage, kielbasa, rolls and delicious desserts. The drawing for the Ace of Spades will be held at approximately 5 p.m. The dinner and Ace of Spades drawing are both open to the public.

Yankee Station Saturday at APlex

ALPENA — The APlex presents a concert by Yankee Station, playing all your favorites, from Kid Rock to Fleetwood Mac, and much more, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at 701 Woodward Ave., Alpena.

Tickets are $15, available at www.aplex.org. Randy Bouchard will provide opening music. Proceeds will benefit Thunder Bay Curling Club.

Cookie decorating April 11

ALPENA — A cookie decorating class will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 at the Free Methodist Church, 175 N. Ripley Blvd., Alpena.

The cost is $30 to be paid by March 25 to Betty DuRocher, cash or Venmo.

Each person will receive 12 cookies with three colors of icing in their cookie kit. Instructor, Theresa from Cabin Cookies, will be giving participants instructions and tips to decorate your cookies at this fun event.

UAW Retirees meet on first Wednesdays of the month

ALPENA — The UAW Retirees hold a gathering at 11 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at JJ’s Steak and Pizza House. There is parking on the street and in the parking lot across the street. JJ’s is located at 411 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena.

A representative from the UAW Trust and BCBS will be at each meeting.

We hold the meeting at 11 a.m., and then, at about noon, a variety of pizza, breadsticks and salad is served. If you choose to join in the lunch, the cost is $8. People start to arrive a half-hour early for some socializing before the meeting.

The meeting dates for 2024 are April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, and Dec. 4.

AHS Class of 1953 meets April 9

ALPENA — The Alpena High School Class of 1953 will be meeting again starting on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the 19th Hole.

The group will meet every second Tuesday through Nov. 12 at the 19th Hole. Please mark your calendars and let other classmates know. Bring your spouse or a friend.

Bridge results announced

ALPENA — Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club results for this week have been announced.

Linda Ferguson and Elaine Smith placed first, followed by Linda Clegg and Audrey Stevens in second, and Marge French and Marcy Sherman in third place.
