Free Lunch and Learn to explore CenteringPregnancy program

ALPENA — MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena will host a free Lunch and Learn at 11:30 a.m. on Monday in the hospital auditorium, talking about the CenteringPregnancy program. CenteringPregnancy is a unique way to deliver prenatal care through the use of group sessions. The goal is to empower patients to get involved with their own prenatal care, while also providing them with knowledge and skills to make healthy decisions throughout their pregnancy.

“Each session includes a private appointment with an obstetrician and also allows time for participants to receive prenatal education in a group session,” said Karen Nowicki-Compeau, B.S.N., R.N., community health supervisor, MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. “The group sessions allow participants to share their thoughts and concerns but also learn and support each other throughout their pregnancies and beyond.”

During the program, attendees will learn more about the CenteringPregnancy program, how pregnant patients are enrolled and how sessions are structured from a patient’s perspective. A tour of the Medical Center’s newly renovated Maternity Center also will be given.

“This program helps moms-to-be feel more supported and empowered during their pregnancies,” adds Nowicki-Compeau. “The provider-led sessions are designed to address all aspects of wellness during pregnancy, not just physical health.”

Registration for the Lunch and Learn is required. To register, visit mymichigan.org/centering or call 989-837-9090.
