Brush Creek Mill awards nearly $12K in mini-grants

HILLMAN — The record breaking support of our 2023 “Teeing Up For Kids” golf scramble has allowed the Brush Creek Mill’s Children’s fund to award nearly $12,000 in mini-grants for 2024.

All of the 23 applications were for child-centered activities. We were able to fund all of the 23 applications for Atlanta, Hillman and Lewiston within Montmorency County. Our Children’s fund also sponsors the annual Christmas party at the Brush Creek Mill, Halloween Hand Out and the field trips to the Besser Museum for fourth grade students of Atlanta, Hillman, and Lewiston schools.

We are pleased to announce the recipients of our 2024 mini-grants:

¯ Atlanta Schools: Grades K-12 — Virtual headsets to expand program to include history, science and music/band and German classes;

¯ Atlanta Schools: Grade 3 — Student treasure books;

¯ Atlanta Schools: Kindergarten — Flexible classroom seating;

¯ Atlanta Schools: Grades Pre-K through 5 — “HSO” library update;

¯ Atlanta Schools: Grades K-5 — Update U.S. history books;

¯ Atlanta Schools: Grade 2 — Transportation to Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena;

¯ Atlanta Elk Fest: Kid’s Zone;

¯ Hillman Area Lions Club: Support school pantry and backpack program;

¯ Hilllman Christian Academy: Grades K-12 classroom technology;

¯ Hillman United Methodist Church: “Back to School Bash”;

¯ Hillman Schools: Grades K-5 Bookworm Vending Machine — New books;

¯ Hillman Schools: Grades 4-5 Marine Sancturary trip to Alpena;

¯ Hilllman Schools: Elementary school music and band program;

¯ Hillman Schools: Junior and senior high school music and band program;

¯ Hillman Schools: High school photography class;

¯ Hilllman Girl Scout Troop #4810: Michigan Legacy Art Park — Earning badges;

¯ Lewiston Schools: Grade 5 — Inland Seas/Suttons Bay;

¯ Montmorency County Libraries: School Outreach Fine Arts Program (Atlanta, Hillman, Lewiston);

¯ Montmorency County 4-H Fair: Tea party event;

¯ St. John’s Lutheran Children’s Center: Rock climbing wall;

A mini-grant presentation ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 10 at the Brush Creek Mill. Community members are welcome to attend.
