Gone to Pieces Quilt Guild gives to Hope Shores Alliance

ALPENA -- Gone to Pieces Quilt Guild has a longstanding relationship with Hope Shores Alliance (previously Shelter Inc.).

Throughout the year, the guild donates quilts, pillowcases, tote bags and other items made by guild members to benefit the survivors that utilize Hope Shores services.

At the December meeting, members of the guild collect a monetary donation for a local organization. This year, the donation was earmarked for Hope Shores Alliance.

During the January guild meeting, Gone to Pieces President Ginny Roland and Treasurer Lynn Knechtel presented a check to Val Williams, executive director of Hope Shores Alliance.

According to Williams, the donation will be used for various survivor needs.

Hope Shores Alliance is a community supported organization dedicated to assisting victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. They believe in communities where all people have the right to be safe from domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.

They provide victims and survivors with a 24/7 help and support line, counseling and support groups, limited financial assistance, emergency and long-term housing, thrift stores, education and prevention programs, advocacy and support.

Hope Shores provides services to a five-county area including Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties.

Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month (unless schools are closed for inclement weather) at 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church on Ripley Boulevard in Alpena.
