ALPENA -- Terry Gougeon, chair, and Judy Kalmanek, secretary, longtime active and much-appreciated board officers, chose to retire from their offices at a recent meeting of the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Board. They will continue to serve as board members.
Following nominations, board officers elected were Lisa Kruse, chair, and Boris Gerber, secretary.
Other business items at the meeting included reports on the River Center, Island Park maintenance and a social media update.
Draft plans for Phase I of the River Center pavilion and restrooms have been completed, according to Kalmanek, chair of the Thunder Bay River Center.
Gougeon passed on a list of maintenance items (annual, seasonal and ongoing) needed for Island Park upkeep.
Kruse, social media chair, gave an update and reported editing progress in preparation for the board's expanded use of social media.
The Wildlife Sanctuary Board meets the third Thursday of every month at Alpena City Hall. Board members, appointed by the Alpena Municipal Council for three years of service, are: Gerber, Gougeon, Amber Hubbard, Larry Johns, Kalmanek, Kruse, Elizabeth Littler, Vernie Nethercut, Tom Orth, and Catherine Stedman.
