ALPENA -- The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan was the location of the Dec. 4 meeting of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators.
The meeting room at the museum was surrounded with lighted trees, each decorated in the style of a different European country, a beautiful setting for the group's December meeting.
Guests attending the event were Sue Riedlinger, Alpena High School counselor; Julie Hasse, kindergarten teacher at Ella White Elementary; Susan Maj, Alpena High School special education teacher; and Jeremy Smith, music teacher at Ella White Elementary. These individuals are new to the district and applied for a grant of $100 to use for instructional material with their students. The Alpha Xi Chapter of DKG is pleased to present this financial support each year for up to five teachers.
The members of Alpha Xi brought gifts and monetary contributions of $410 to children in the Transitional Housing Program, associated with Hope Shores Alliance. This has also been an annual service project for the society.
Members of the Alpena High School Choir, under the direction of Julie Wood, provided the entertainment for the evening.
The next meeting of Alpha Xi will be on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church.
