Alcona County Library announces December programs

“Mr. Dickens and His Carol: A Novel of Christmas Past” by Samantha Silva will be the topic of book club on Dec. 19.

HARRISVILLE -- Alcona County Library has announced its program lineup for December.

Every Tuesday in December, practice ukulele at 10 a.m. at the Harrisville branch. Ukuleles are available for checkout, and players of all skill levels are invited to join. The ability to read music is not required. You'll learn how to tune and strum in no time!

Every Thursday in December, the walking club meets at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Harrisville branch for a brisk morning walk. This group meets rain, snow, or shine. Take in the sights of Harrisville on foot!

Every Friday in December, storytime and craft for kids is at 10:30 a.m. Miss Shay will read a book to the kids and afterward, they'll participate in a seasonal craft. Follow Alcona County Library on Facebook for real-time updates and information about each week's book and craft!

Today is Popcorn Friday! Fresh popped popcorn will be available at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library while supplies last.

On Saturday, celebrate Christmas in the Village with the Harrisville branch from noon to 1:30 p.m. Santa will be at the library to take pictures with the kids, and there will be cookies to decorate and crafts to work on or take home. Afterward, the Friends of the Alcona County Library will host their Quilt Raffle from 1:30 to 2 p.m., and the bids will be tallied for the silent auction.

On Wednesday, Friends of the Alcona County Library will meet at 1 p.m. at the Harrisville branch.

On Thursday, the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library hosts a holiday card making class from 1 to 3 p.m. Choose from three designs and make one (or all!) versions of cards to keep or send to loved ones for the holiday season. This craft is $3 per person and has a limit of 15 people. Stop in at the Harrisville circulation desk to sign up, or call the library at 989-724-6796.

On Tuesdays, Dec. 5 and 19, Knitting Klub and Crochet meets from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. in the conference room to share stories, tips and tricks while working on knit and crochet projects. All ages and skill levels are welcome to join at the Harrisville branch. Bring a project you're currently working on, or start a new one while chatting with the group.

On Wednesday, Dec. 13, the Library Board will meet at 2 p.m. at the Harrisville branch. The Library Board will interview candidates for the board opening at this meeting.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, the Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. to discuss this month's book, "Mr. Dickens and His Carol: A Novel of Christmas Past," by Samantha Silva. This book offers a take on how Charles Dickens came to write his famous holiday story, "A Christmas Carol." Join the club for coffee and light refreshments while discussing the novel.

From Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 25, all branches of the Alcona County Library (Harrisville, Caledonia, Lincoln, Mikado, and the Curtis Township Library in Glennie) will be closed for the Christmas holiday.

From Saturday, Dec. 30 through Monday, Jan. 1, all branches of the Alcona County Library (Harrisville, Caledonia, Lincoln, Mikado, and the Curtis Township Library in Glennie) will be closed for the New Year.
