Applications being accepted for Christmas food assistance, toys

ALPENA -- Christmas is coming, and many feel unprepared. They are concerned about where the funds are going to come from their already tight budget. The Salvation Army of Alpena is here to assist those who are concerned about providing a Christmas to remember.

The Salvation Army's Christmas Assistance Sign-Up for families and individuals living in Alpena County is coming soon. Applications are being taken at The Salvation Army Church located at 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena on the following dates:

¯ From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7;

¯ From 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8; and

¯ From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9.

All applicants need to bring the following:

¯ Picture ID of applicant with Alpena County address.

¯ Some form of ID for all others in household, such as birth certificate, school ID, Medicaid card, etc.

¯ Proof of all income in the household, such as paystub, DHHS, Social Security benefits documentation, etc.

Qualified applicants will receive:

¯ A food basket with enough food for a holiday dinner and more.

¯ Gifts for children in the family age newborn to 17 years old only.
