Polish Dinner and Oktoberfest Saturday

ALPENA — The Marine Corps League is inviting the community to a Polish Dinner and Oktoberfest from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Alpena VFW Post 2496 Hall, 2900 Connon St. The $15 meal includes kielbasa, sauerkraut, potatoes, German sausage, roll, and dessert. Live music will be provided by Rob Schneider and the Red Accordian.

Walk Against Homelessness and Hunger Nov. 4

ALPENA — The 2023 Walk Against Homelessness and Hunger will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Salvation Army Church, 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Children and pets are welcome. Funds collected will be given to local programs providing homeless and/or hunger assistance. Aid by the Dozen met

ALPENA — The October meeting of the Aid by the Dozen was held at the 19th Hole. Kay Ross was the hostess.

After dinner, Catheriine Murphy called the meeting to order.

A generous amount of needed clothing items were brought in by the members and donated to the Children’s Closet. Marlene Montie, the Sunshine Girl, sent cards of sympathy and get well wishes. Thank-you notes were read.

Plans were made for Christmas donations. Enjoying secret pal gifts were Lori Zeller, Tammy Daleski, Carol Kelly, Mariette Jore, Chris Dubey, Nancy Balinger, and Catherine. The hostess gift went to Carol. Also winning desserts were Catherine, Chris, and Nancy.

Sherry Allen will host the November meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the 19th Hole.

MARSP to meet Nov. 9

ALPENA — Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will meet at nooon on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the First United Methodist Church on Ripley Boulevard. The guest speaker will be from the Salvation Army.

A catered meal will be served and reservations need to be made by Nov. 2 to Ruth LeBarre at 989-379-4453. Payment of $14 needs to be sent to Ruth at 1796 Emerson Road, Herron, MI 49744 by Nov. 2.

Come early to visit with other retired school personnel.
