Margie Haaxma named Salvation Army Red Kettle chairperson

2 min read

ALPENA -- Margie Haaxma will be this year's Salvation Army Honorary Red Kettle chairperson for the holiday season.

Major Prezza Morrison went live on Facebook for the announcement on Friday, naming Haaxma as the second annual chairperson.

Morrison said Haaxma "is the perfect fit since she has a heart for helping those in need in the community."

Morrison added that Haaxma and the Banner Realty team provide funds and gifts to other agencies serving Alpena County, aligning with the Salvation Army of Alpena County's mission.

Last year, The Salvation Army, at the last minute, reached its goal of $160,000.

"In considering this year's goal, I must consider that the economy is struggling, and pocketbooks are, too," Morrison said.

Due to increasing costs of programs, services and supplies needed to serve the community, Morrison will consider what the goal will be. With all this in mind, she believes the community will see the need and give from their hearts, helping others in this difficult time.

Haaxma will announce this year's goal on Friday, Nov. 10 on The Salvation Army of Alpena Facebook page.

The Salvation Army thanks the community of Alpena County for their continued support.

"We are able to serve the numbers we serve because of the generosity of our neighbors," Morrison said. "Your care is shown in your giving, and we are very grateful."

Monetary donations are accepted via mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena, MI 49707. Donations are also accepted at salmich.org/alpena or by calling Morrison at 989-358-2769.

"We look forward to seeing the difference our donors' gifts make in our community," Morrison added.
