Hinks celebrating Unity Month

ALPENA -- Hinks has a very special month planned for Unity Month in October. The Hinks Hawks have a motto: F.L.Y. (First Love Yourself). The month starts with students signing the Hinks Unity Rock to pledge to be kind to their schoolmates.
In week one, the students get a lesson on bullying on Pink Shirt Day, an annual event that teaches kids how to stick together and stand up to bullies.
In week two, students will be paired with a buddy to make a kite. On the kite they draw or write about what makes them proud.
In week three, Students create F.L.Y. locker mirrors that they can use to remind them to exhibit F.L.Y. behaviors. Hinks will celebrate Unity Day on Oct. 18 by flying their kites!
The month includes a family activity for home in which families create a collage with the theme "How and Why You are Proud to FLY!"
