ALPENA — A new Community Garden of Alpena sign has been made and placed at the garden, located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Lockwood Street. This was made possible through contributions from the Boys and Girls Club of Alpena’s Youth Volunteer Corps, Habitat for Humanity, and artist Christine Brennan.
The garden is 12 years old. There are presently 16 members who tend their own garden plots. The land is provided by local businessman Chris Lawrence, and the water is provided by an anonymous donor. Beginning gardeners and experienced gardeners are welcome with garden tools provided to those who have none. All gardeners grow for themselves except one plot is growing exclusively for the Friendship Room. There are several garden plots open for 2024. There is no membership fee; you become a member by declaring that you want to become a member. Anyone interested in becoming a member can call 989-657-9313.
