ALPENA -- The Michigan State Housing Development Authority recently awarded Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan a grant totaling $275,000 to aid the community through energy-efficient home repairs and upgrades through the Michigan Housing Opportunities Promoting Energy Efficiency program (MI-HOPE). Residents can apply for the MI-HOPE program online beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, October 27.
The MI-HOPE program, an extension of MSHDA's Neighborhood Enhancement Program, aids communities throughout Michigan by providing funds to local governments and nonprofit organizations to engage in energy-efficiency housing projects. Eligible assisted activities include roofs, insulation, modification, or replacement of heating/cooling systems and more. The complete list of eligible activities can be viewed on page five of the MI-HOPE term sheet.
"We're excited to support Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan as it works to facilitate positive change within the Northeast Michigan community through energy-efficient repairs and maintenance," said Tonya Joy, Neighborhood Housing Initiatives Division Director. "The purpose of MI-HOPE is to improve the health and safety of residents by providing much-needed repairs and maintenance to roofs, windows, and more. MSHDA wants to positively change communities around the state, and we believe Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan will utilize the funds to make the biggest impact."
HFHNEMI will use these funds for energy-efficient home upgrades. The projects are anticipated to be completed by December 2026.
"Our Habitat affiliate and our Northeast Michigan community appreciate the financial support that the Michigan State Housing Development Authority has provided us by offering energy-efficient upgrades to homes in our service area," said Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan Executive Director Ted Fines.
