August programs planned at Alcona County Library

HARRISVILLE — The Alcona County Library has announced its programs for August. Call the library at 989-724-6796 if you have questions about any of these programs.

Friends of the Alcona County Library will meet at 11 a.m. today at the Harrisville branch.

Today at 3 p.m. and Wednesdays, Aug. 9, 16, and 23, embark on an extraordinary adventure at our new Dungeons and Dragons Club! Discover a world of imagination, where heroes are born and legends unfold at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Beginners are welcome.

On Thursdays in August, Community Walking Club for Everyone will meet at 9 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Thursday, Aug. 3, Friends of the Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

Friday, Aug. 4 is Popcorn Friday! Come to the Alcona County Library in Harrisville and enjoy a free bag of movie-style buttered popcorn, while supplies last. Don’t forget to check out a movie while you’re there!

On Friday, Aug. 4, Friends of the Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Fridays, Aug. 4, 18, and 25, storytime and craft for children is at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Friday, Aug. 4, at 1:30 p.m., experience this fascinating, interactive program designed to spread the joys of the hula hoop. A variety of topics featuring hula hoops and club juggling are available to delight and entertain audiences of all ages at the Alcona County Library in Harrisville. This free program is supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and Art in the Loft.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, Friends of the Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Tuesdays in August, practice ukulele with other confident beginners from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Confident beginners will know several chords and are eager to become familiar with playing in a group. The ability to read music is not required.

On Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 1:30 p.m., enjoy music from around the world, captivating stories, didgeridoos, and hands-on fun with The Storytellers’ Audrey Allison at the Alcona County Library in Harrisville. This free program is supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and Art in the Loft.

On Thursday, Aug. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m., step into a world of excitement with our outdoor game zones. We’ve curated a diverse range of games to cater to all age groups and interests at the Glennie branch of the Alcona County Library.

On Thursdays, Aug. 10 and 24, Teen Movie & Munchies is at 5 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. For ages 13 and up, enjoy an age-appropriate movie and movie-style buttered popcorn. Call 989-724-6796 for details.

On Friday, Aug. 11, encounter amazing animals from around the world with Exotic Zoo at 10 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. This hands-on learning experience is supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and Friends of the Library.

On Monday, Aug. 14, cooking club meets at 5 p.m. Whether you’re an experienced chef or a beginner in the kitchen, this club welcomes individuals of all skill levels who have a passion for cooking and a desire to learn and experiment with new flavors at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Choose and make any recipe from this month’s recipe book, “Indian Cooking Unfolded” by Raghavan Iyer, then share your creation with other club members.

On Tuesday, Aug. 15, The Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. The selection for August is “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro. Adult Summer Reading ends this day.

On Tuesday, Aug. 15, Knitting Klub & Crochet meets from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. All ages and levels are welcome.

On Wednesday, Aug. 16, Kids, Tween, and Teen Summer Reading ends. Be sure to have your tickets turned in.

Wednesday, Aug. 16 is Splash Day! Make a splash with a variety of water-themed activities that will keep you cool and entertained as we celebrate the end of Summer Reading at 2 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library in Harrisville.

On Thursday, Aug. 17, tweens age 9 and up are invited to the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library at 3:30 p.m. for a fun craft and snack. This free program is supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and Art in the Loft.

On Friday, Aug. 18, the Alcona County Library will be drawing the winners of our Summer Reading Program prizes! The winners will be announced at 1 p.m. You do not need to be present to win. The library appreciates all those who gave donations for the 2023 Summer Reading Prizes.

On Wednesday, Aug. 23, the Alcona County Library Board will meet at 2 p.m. at the Harrisville branch.
