ALPENA — Staff at the Wound Treatment Center at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena recently completed a new training program called the TCC-EZ Master Caster Program. This program is designed to enhance the standard of practice in total contact casting, a technique that helps patients avoid bearing weight on the impacted foot or leg while receiving wound treatment.
The Healogics iSupply TCC-EZ Master Caster Program is available to all Healogics Wound Care Centers using Integra’s TCC-EZ Total Contact Cast System. By completing this specialized application and skills program, the Wound Treatment Center is positioned to help its patients heal diabetic foot ulcers faster and potentially decrease the risk of amputations.
“Our goal is to heal the wounds of our patients, and total contact casting is a great way to aid in their recovery,” said Tammy Ruemenapp, program director, Wound Treatment Center. “By providing our wound care team with this valuable training, we will be able to create an even better patient experience, while having the opportunity to heal more diabetic foot ulcers.”
Offloading, such as TCC, reduces pressure on the wound and increases the pace and probability of healing. This advanced treatment modality is especially useful for treating patients who may have a diabetic foot ulcer, which if left untreated, can result in serious health complications, potentially even amputation.
The TCC-EZ Master Caster Program brings Integra clinical specialists into Healogics centers — providing advanced application skill training, patient treatment and compliance solutions, along with appropriate total contact casting (TCC) patient identification. TCC is the gold standard of therapeutic offloading and this designation of the two-year TCC-EZ Master Caster certificate reflects the Wound Treatment Center’s commitment to exceptional offloading standards and practices.
