City Band sets summer concerts

ALPENA — The Alpena City Band will begin their summer evening concert series, starting at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday at the bandshell in Bay View Park.

Formed in 1918, the band has been long established as an Alpena icon, performing a large array of music, including classic marches, contemporary show tunes and selections from some of the greatest composers.

Thursday’s concert theme is “School’s Out.” The band will be performing every Thursday through Aug. 10 when the final concert will be “The Polka Concert.”

People interested in playing with the band this season may call band manager Bob Sullivan at 989-464-0007 for information.

Upcoming themed concerts include: June 8: School’s Out Concert; June 29: Patriotic Concert; July 20: Children’s Concert; July 27: Looking Back Concert; Aug. 10: Polka Concert. These concerts are free for the public to enjoy. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and bring the whole family for an evening of live music!
